Collegiate’s roadmap to student success includes 16 College Board Advanced Placement courses among four rigorous career academies that encourage self-discovery and a mastery of core academic content: Early College, Information Technology and Engineering, Fine Arts, and Health Sciences. Our Early College Academy, the first such program at a public charter high school in the city, offers highly motivated students the opportunity to earn up to two years’ college credit before graduation. Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Learn about careers in the health industry while developing your leadership and technical skills. The Robotics Club will offer students the chance to design, build, and program a VEX 5 robot. Students will participate in competitions throughout the school year. This club is for students who love to question, tinker, experiment and play. VEX competitions foster these skills and capitalize on the motivational effects of competitions and robotics to help all students create an identity as a STEM learner. Students will also gain valuable soft skills like communication, collaboration and time-management in a fun and authentic way. Being in this club will give students the opportunity to sing many different styles of music, either alone or as part of an ensemble, on a weekly basis. Grade Levels: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th Day(s): Tuesdays and Thursdays Club Sponsor: Dr. McIlwain-Lighfood, Collegiate Academy teacher Marching Band/Color Guard/Band Dancers In addition to being a part of the Collegiate Marching Knights, students will be given the most basic instruction from instrument assembly, care, and maintenance, to advanced techniques as he/she progresses during at-home practice and eventually in-school instruction. Also included in this club are the Band Dancers and Color Guard. The goal is to provide quality dance instruction for all students who participate, regardless of skill-level. Dance promotes strong self-confidence, self-respect, discipline, and appreciation through the fine arts of dance. Students will participate in technical competitions such as the Try-Math-A-Lon, Ten80, Engineering Design Competition (Robotics-based), and the PCI Science Fair. In addition, students will compete in online tournaments. Chess helps develop critical-thinking skills and encourages good sportsmanship. Friendship News Network student reporters have produced award-winning news, reviews, interviews, opinion and original work in print and online. FNN reporters have traveled the world—from New York to Fiji to Zambia, the Grand Canyon and much more.
