Why Tech Prep?Friendship Technology Preparatory is a college preparatory high school serving students in 9th – 12th grade. Friendship Public Charter School has expanded its portfolio of schools with a new school model: Friendship Tech Prep Academy, where our secondary STEM program provides multiple opportunities for students to develop skills in science, technology, engineering and math through our robotics program, engineering classes, hands-on science curriculum, and the use of technology such as iPads and Smartboards. At Friendship Tech Prep students benefit from Advanced Placement and Honors courses, as well as Career Academy courses that provide pathways in technology, science, engineering, law, and communication arts. Tech Prep has a high graduation and college acceptance rates. Friendship Tech Prep Academy is preparing students for higher education and the career of their choice by ensuring mastery of skills, knowledge, and tools needed to succeed in the 21st-century green global economy. Debate Team This activity provides the opportunity for students to learn the fundamentals of structuring, sourcing, and of course debating a wide variety of topics and arguments. The Debate Team will motivate students to stay current on important issues relevant in the United States and the world today. MANRRS also offers students opportunities to enhance leadership and organizational and public speaking skills, and to experience professional critique of scholarly work in a “user friendly” environment. The Robotics Club will offer students the chance to design, build, and program a VEX 5 robot. Students will participate in competitions throughout the school year. VEX competitions foster these skills and capitalize on the motivational effects of competitions and robotics to help all students create an identity as a STEM learner. Games include Overwatch, CS:GO, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros: Ultimate, Rainbow Six: Siege, Hearthstone, NBA 2K 21, Madden 21, Minecraft: Survival Games, Modern Warfare: Gunfight, and Valorant. IMPORTANT NOTE: Students must have the game console, online subscription, and game at home in order to participate in the Esports League. Members participate in workshops, service projects, educational trips, and events that encourage personal growth, teamwork, and positive decision-making. The club empowers young women to become confident leaders in their school and community. Grade Levels: 9–12 Meeting Day: Tuesdays and Thursdays Club Sponsor: Monique Kendrick, Tech Prep teacher Gardening Club The Tech Prep Gardening Club is a hands-on environmental leadership program where students transform our campus into a thriving, sustainable green space while developing valuable life and career skills. Members work alongside peers and mentors to plant and maintain vegetables, herbs, flowers, native plants, and pollinator habitats while learning about urban agriculture, environmental stewardship, biodiversity, composting, hydroponics, soil health, and sustainable growing practices. Through engaging outdoor experiences, students discover how healthy ecosystems support healthy communities and gain a deeper appreciation for the role they play in protecting the environment. As an extension of Tech Prep’s Academy of Urban Ecology, the Gardening Club encourages students to become changemakers by connecting classroom learning to real-world action. Club members participate in community service projects, campus beautification, environmental initiatives, grant-funded sustainability projects, and opportunities to share their work with the school and local community. Whether students have years of gardening experience or are planting their very first seed, the Gardening Club provides a welcoming space to build leadership, teamwork, confidence, and a lifelong commitment to creating a greener future.
