As CEO of Friendship Public Charter School, it’s my honor to kick off Day One of the new school year by visiting every FPCS school in our hometown of Washington, D.C. – 16 campuses in all, on nine school sites, nestled in five wards, serving thousands of students in pre-kindergarten to 12th grade.
Every year on Day One, after walking the halls, visiting classrooms, greeting parents and talking with students – many of whom I’ve watched grow as part of the Friendship family – I think to myself “this has to be the best Day One yet. Nothing can top this feeling.”
Well, Friendship, I must say that this time around you set a new standard for excellence on Day One!
I’m proud of how each of our schools began this year’s journey of student achievement.
YOU made Day One an experience to remember! Your joy was contagious, your commitment was clear, and your knowledge and expertise as educators, school leaders and culture creators was on full display.
Anyone who entered one of our schools on Day One was assured that our children are safe, respected, loved. At Friendship, bright, joyful, curious scholars receive the best a high-quality education has to offer.
From wall art that showcases the timeless lessons of Dr. King and Friendship’s high expectations – to lessons that explore great authors and introduces foreign languages, our students were engaged and learning on Day One!
I’m also extremely proud of our school support staff and community office teams who made sure every surface gleamed, and school grounds and community gardens were manicured and blooming. Our indoor and outdoor classrooms were outfitted to support rigor, spark creative thought and build community. Not to mention, our culinary staff makes the best breakfast and lunch in town!
All of these great things don’t happen by chance. Day One is the product of weeks of planning and professional development. Earlier this month, every member of the Friendship community expanded their knowledge, intensified their mastery and celebrated the irrepressible spirit of Friendship with our annual Standards University and high-energy Convocation celebration.
Because of what YOU have invested to ensure our students have the best teaching and learning tools at their fingertips, we’re ready for an incredible school year.
More dynamic early childhood outcomes.
More groundbreaking STEM awards and art-immersion experiences.
More meaningful professional development opportunities.
More competitive athletic programs, facilities and championship trophies.
More study abroad and dual enrollment.
More record-breaking college acceptances and scholarships.
Friendship let’s keep moving forward, raising the bar for our scholars and ourselves! I’m grateful for all you do. Congrats on a phenomenal Day One.
Yours in service,
Friendship Public Charter School
