ACADEMIC PROGRAMS:

 All academic programs start on Monday, June 26th and end on Thursday, July 27th.
(No school on Tuesday, July 4th)
 
1) Summer Learning Academy (SLA), formerly known as Summer School, is open to all current Friendship students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. SLA offers several instructional pathways that support students who need to recover credits, catch up on current grade-level work, or get a head start on learning next year's standards.
SLA is free for current Friendship students.

Elementary and Middle SLA ~ 8:00 am - 1:00 pm

2) Sixth Grade Summer Bridge Program is mandatory for all rising sixth graders at Friendship Technology Preparatory Academy Middle School.  The Bridge Program provides new sixth grade students attending Friendship's Technology Preparatory Academy in the Fall of 2016 the fundamental Mathematics and English/Language Arts skills to be successful in middle school.  This program is only for incoming sixth-grade students at Technology Preparatory Academy in the fall of 2016!

Hours: 7:45 am - 2:00 pm
 
 
3) Ninth Grade Summer Bridge Program is mandatory for all incoming ninth graders at Friendship Collegiate Academy or Technology Preparatory Academy in the Fall of 2017.  Friendship's Bridge Program strengthens student's Algebra and English skills; helps them develop study skills and time management strategies; and introduces them to the important role high school plays in getting to and through college.

4) SMART Cookies is an accelerated SLA program for current 1st through 7th grade students at Friendship. This program is designed for students who are on grade level or advanced.  Students who meet the criteria will be assigned to this program at the end of the school year.  Students are engaged in an advanced interdisciplinary, critical thinking curriculum.  Students must be registered in SLA to be assigned to the SMART Cookies program.  If your child's end-of-year grades and MAP scores meet the criteria, your child will be placed into the program.
 
Locations:  All Friendship Campuses
Hours:  8:00 am - 1:00 pm

5) Extended School Year (ESY) services are designed to support a student with a disability, as documented under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), to maintain the academic, social/behavioral, communication, or other skills that they have learned as part of their IEP.  If your child is being recommended for ESY, you will receive a letter in the mail.  You can also contact Ms. Blakey-Tuggle at 202-281-1700 or mbtuggle@friendshipschools.org for more information.

ENRICHMENT CAMPS:
 
 All enrichment camps start on Monday, June 26th
(No enrichment activities on Tuesday, July 4th.  End dates vary)
 
1) Friendship Cares Summer Camp is an afternoon camp for current Kindergarten through fifth grade students.  Students must be enrolled in Summer Learning Academy from 8 am - 1 pm to participate in this camp.  The camp offers five weeks of fun and engaging activities and field trips in the areas of health and fitness; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM); and fine and visual arts.  Students will also participate in traditional summer activities like swimming and arts & crafts.  Snack and/or dinner are included.
 
There is a $70 weekly fee for this camp.  Childcare subsidies and scholarships are available for income-eligible parents.
 
Friendship Cares Schedule: Daily from 1:00 pm - 5:30 pm
*Before-Care is available from 7:00-7:55 am for students enrolled in SLA.
*The Friendship Cares summer camp ends on Friday, July 29th.
 
(If your child is currently enrolled in the Friendship Cares Aftercare Program this school year, you do not need to complete this application.)
 
 
 
2) Friendship Cares Early Childhood Summer Camp is a full-day summer camp for current preschool and preK4 students.  This day camp offers indoor and outdoor activities, plus opportunities for fun, friendships, and exploration.  The camp groups children by age and encourage their growing ability to make choices, work with others, and assume responsibilities.  Breakfast, lunch, and snack/dinner are included.
 
There is a $150 weekly fee for this camp.  Childcare subsidies and scholarships are available for income-eligible parents.
 
Friendship Cares Early Childhood Schedule: 
Before-Care: 7:00 am - 7:55 am
Camp Activities:  8:00 am - 5:00 pm
After-Care: 5:00 pm - 5:30 pm

3) Positive Directions Summer Dance Camp is facilitated in partnership with the Dance Institute of Washington (DIW) and specifically designed for current Friendship students (boys and girls) in Kindergarten through 5th grade.  The camp is conducted at our Friendship Armstrong campus and provides dance training in several areas of dance, including ballet and hip-hop dance.  Students will also go on exciting field experiences and will be required to participate in an end-of-summer performance.  
This camp ends on Friday, July 28th
Hours:  8:00 am - 1 pm
 
(Enrollment is limited)
(Students required to attend Summer Learning Academy are not eligible to participate in this program.)
 
 
 
 
4) Princess Basketball Camp is an elementary girls basketball camp designed to provide academic enrichment and basketball skills instruction to 2nd through 5th grade girls.  This camp is only opened to current 2nd-5th grade girls at the Friendship Southeast Elementary Campus. The Princess Basketball Camp is aimed at teaching young ladies about the game of basketball including the rules and regulations as well as tips and techniques to play the game more competitively and effectively. This camp is a great way to teach the value of working together for a common goal, sacrifice, and accountability to others.
This camp ends on Thursday, July 27th

(Enrollment is limited and only opened to Friendship Southeast Elementary students.)
(Students required to attend Summer Learning Academy are not eligible to participate in this program.)
 
 
 
 
 
 
6) Middle School and High School Enrichment activities are offered at the following Friendship campuses for current 6th - 12th grade students:
Friendship Collegiate Academy (Grades 9-12)
Friendship Technology Preparatory Academy (Grades 6-12)
 Students have the opportunity to choose activities in the following areas:  Fine and Visual Arts; Sports and Fitness; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM); Literacy Clubs; and Business and Finance. Many students will be placed at internships throughout the city.
 
Middle School enrichment activities are for current 6th and 7th grade students and run from 1:00 pm - 5:00 daily.  High School enrichment activities are for current 8th through 12th grade students and run from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm.  These afternoon enrichment activities are free for current Friendship students.  Students MUST be enrolled in Summer Learning Academy (SLA) to participate in afternoon enrichment activities.
*Friendship PCS is a registered Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) through DOES.
